Competency Based Learning

Competency-based learning is based on the idea that students need to develop a degree of mastery with each fundamental learning aspect before moving onto the next. The focus is on deep learning, and ensuring that each student learns what is important to succeed at the next step before moving on. 

In this way, learning becomes more personalized, where students can both accelerate when they are demonstrating mastery of a topic or skill, and at the same time slow down to ensure they have learned the fundamental aspects of the curriculum. 

The goal is to meet students where they are in their learning which can reduce stress and anxiety, and keep the focus on learning and growth.
